Widespread throughout the British Isles, migrant adult butterflies
arrive in spring and lay their eggs to produce a second brood of British 'ladies' mid summer. These butterflies are commonly seen in our gardens but cannot survive a British
winter. Caterpillars feed mainly on thistles.
